Both teams have had successful starts to their summer schedules. Before leaving for the US, United defeated Leeds United and Lyon, while Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal destroyed an MLS All-Star team 5-0 on July 20.

With both coaches aiming for a successful start to the 2023–24 season, this game marks the beginning of the second phase of preseason for Arteta and his opponent Erik Ten Hag.

Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber all joined Arteta’s team this month, strengthening it. All three start, but United’s new No. 1 Andre Onana needs more time to join the group.

After making a brief cameo appearance off the bench against the MLS All-Stars, Rice has Arsenal fans eager to see him in action.

Due to lengthy transfer negotiations, Onana was unable to join the team in time for this game. However, fellow newcomer Mason Mount starts alongside some of the other regular players, including Antony, Luke Shaw, and Bruno Fernandes. We’ll observe how Fernandes and Mount get along.

The starting lineups for both sides are listed below ahead of their match on July 22 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Alex Runarsson (13) and Karl Hein (31) are among the 16 substitutes for Arsenal. Robert Holding, 3 Kyle Tierney, Jakub Kiwior (15), (4) Ben White Austin Trusty, 32 Aario Cozier-Duberry, 21. Both fullback positions are changed under Mikel Arteta’s leadership at Arsenal, and Kai Havertz and Declan Rice are given the nod in place of Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard, respectively, in the midfield three. Declan Rice replaces Jorginho, and Kai Havertz replaces Leandro Trossard, who has resumed training.

Leandro Trossard, a Belgian international, returned to training this week despite concerns surrounding him following the injury he sustained against the MLS All-Stars.
